Common questions
About everygrocer
What is everygrocer?
everygrocer is an online market for neighborhood grocery shops. Independent local shop owners list fresh produce, dry goods and home cooking, and customers nearby buy straight from them — then pick the order up or have it brought by a local driver.
It is not a supermarket and it does not ship. everygrocer does not grow, buy, store or handle any product; each shop owner is the seller of their own goods. everygrocer is operated by Anureka Inc.
Who sells on everygrocer?
Independent shop owners in the neighborhood — home kitchens cooking prepared food, small farms and growers, and neighbors who bring in goods that are hard to find locally. Each one sets their own prices, order cutoffs and pickup or delivery arrangements, and writes their own product descriptions and allergen labels.
Which cities does everygrocer serve?
Right now shops are selling in Sunnyvale, CA. The list changes as shops open and close: a city is listed only while at least one shop there has something you can order.
Orders stay local — you pick up from the shop owner or a local driver brings it, so you can only order from shops near you. The current list, with the shops in each place, is on the "Shops near you" page (/near).
Who runs everygrocer, and how do I reach you?
everygrocer is operated by Anureka Inc., a Delaware corporation. For card orders Anureka Inc. is the merchant of record, so the charge on your statement reads "everygrocer".
For anything about an order, start with the shop owner from your My orders page. To reach everygrocer itself, email support@everygrocer.com (orders, selling, bugs) or privacy@everygrocer.com (your data). The mailing address and the full list are on the Contact page (/contact).
Which languages is everygrocer available in?
The site is available in English, Simplified Chinese (everygrocer.com/zh) and Spanish (everygrocer.com/es); switch with the language control in the top bar. Order and account emails are sent in English.
Ordering, pickup and delivery
How do I order?
Browse the market, add items to your cart and check out. At checkout you choose pickup or local delivery and pay. You sign in with Google, Apple, or a one-time link or code sent to your email — there are no passwords.
Your order, its status and a "Contact the shop" button are on your My orders page afterwards.
Is it pickup or delivery? Where do you deliver?
Either, depending on the shop. Pickup means collecting the order from the shop owner; the exact spot is shared after you order. Local delivery means the shop arranges a local driver and sets the delivery time with you, and we text you when the time is set and when the driver is on the way. Nothing is shipped by mail or courier, and there is no delivery across state lines.
Shops are currently selling in Sunnyvale, CA. The up-to-date list is on the "Shops near you" page (/near).
Whether delivery costs extra is up to each shop — some charge a delivery fee, some waive it above an order amount. Any delivery fee is shown before you pay.
Why can I not order something I can see?
Some items — prepared meals especially — are sold in rounds: a round has an order cutoff, a pickup day and a pickup place. After the cutoff that round is closed, even though the items still show. The shop page tells you when the next round opens, and you can ask to be emailed when it does.
How do I get updates and talk to the shop?
Every order has a "Contact the shop" button on your My orders page, which opens a message thread with the shop owner. Use it for questions about pickup, timing, substitutions or a problem with the order.
For local delivery you give a mobile number at checkout. If you agree to texts, we text you when the delivery time is set, when the driver is on the way and when the order is delivered. Reply STOP at any time to stop the texts.
Can I cancel an order?
Yes, before the shop owner has weighed or prepared it: contact the shop from your My orders page. Once the goods have been weighed or prepared, cancelling is up to the shop owner.
A Zelle, Venmo or PayPal order that is not paid within 24 hours is cancelled automatically and the items go back on sale. The Refund Policy (/refund-policy) covers cancellations and refunds together.
Can a family member see my orders or receive them for me?
Yes. On your Account page you can add people to your family & friends list. Each person gets a private link that shows what you ordered and when it is being delivered, and they can tap "Confirm received" if they pick an order up for you. If they sign in with the email the link was sent to, your shared orders appear under their own My orders.
Removing someone from the list stops their link working straight away.
Paying, fees and refunds
How does paying for weighed items work?
Many fresh items are sold by weight. Some are weighed before listing and show a fixed price. Others are weighed after you order: the listing shows an estimated price range, your card is saved but not charged, and nothing is held on it. Once the shop owner weighs your items, your card is charged the actual weight at the listed per-weight price.
A final price inside the range shown is not grounds for a refund. If it falls outside that range, or you think a weight is wrong, contact the shop.
Can I pay with Zelle, Venmo or PayPal?
Some shops accept Zelle, Venmo or PayPal as well as cards. That money goes directly from you to the shop owner — everygrocer never receives, holds or transfers it and cannot reverse it. Zelle has no buyer protection, so only send to the account shown on your order page and put the order code in the memo.
The shop owner releases the order once they see the money. A Zelle, Venmo or PayPal order that is not paid within 24 hours is cancelled automatically. Card payments are processed by Stripe; everygrocer never sees your full card number.
Can I pay when I pick up or when it is delivered?
Yes, at shops that turn on pay at pickup or delivery. Nothing is charged when you order; you pay the shop owner (or their driver) when you get your order, in cash or with an in-person transfer such as Zelle or Venmo. No screenshot or memo code is needed.
Some shops set a per-order limit for this option. For items weighed after ordering, you will get an email with the exact amount once the shop has weighed them. These orders are not cancelled after 24 hours, and you can still cancel one yourself before it is handed over.
Do customers pay a platform fee?
No. You pay the prices the shop sets, plus a delivery fee if the shop charges one. Shop owners pay everygrocer a membership; nothing is added to your order for it.
How do refunds work?
Open the order on your My orders page and use "Contact the shop" — describe the problem and add a photo if you can, ideally the day you receive the goods. The shop owner responds first and can refund in full or in part. everygrocer can also refund a card order, for example if the shop owner does not respond or the order was never handed over. If you cannot reach the shop, email support@everygrocer.com with the order number.
Card refunds go back to your card, usually within 5–10 business days. Zelle, Venmo and PayPal payments can only be returned by the shop owner. Spoiled, damaged or missing items are usually refunded; goods that were fine at hand-over, orders not picked up in the pickup window, and natural variation in produce usually are not. The Refund Policy (/refund-policy) has the details.
Food safety and your account
Who is responsible for food safety and allergens?
The shop owner. Product descriptions, ingredients, photos and allergen labels are written by the shop owner, and everygrocer does not inspect or test any product. Prepared food may come from home kitchens that also handle common allergens. If you have a food allergy, contact the shop owner before ordering — do not rely on the label alone.
Shop owners must hold any permits their locality requires to sell food, such as a cottage food registration, a California MEHKO permit or a retail food permit. Shops selling prepared meals like bento must show their permit number and issuing agency on their shop page. You can report a food safety problem from the Report link on any product or shop page, and also tell your local health department — how, and what we do with reports, is on (/food-safety).
How do I delete my account?
From the Account page on the site, or in the everygrocer app. Deleting takes effect immediately and cannot be undone: it removes your email, name, sign-in, the contact details and address on your past orders, any transfer screenshots you uploaded and your family & friends list.
What has to be kept is the amount, date and status of orders you already placed, without your name or contact details — tax rules require it and the shop owner has to be paid. Deletion waits while an order is still in progress. The full explanation is on the account deletion page (/account-deletion).
Selling on everygrocer
How do I open a shop, and what does it cost?
Open the shop form from the button at the bottom of everygrocer.com/pricing. You need to be 18 or older and have a way for customers to pay you — a Zelle email, or a Venmo or PayPal username is enough. No SSN, business name, card on file or Stripe account is required. Taking card payments through Stripe is optional and can be turned on later.
There is no commission on your orders. Your first month is free; after that the membership is $29 a month or $280 a year, and on the monthly plan any month you sold less than $500 is free. Card orders carry Stripe’s processing cost (2.9% + 30¢), passed through at cost; Zelle, Venmo and PayPal orders cost you nothing. If the trial ends or a payment fails, your shop stays open — we only send a reminder. The full breakdown is on the Pricing page (/pricing).
